Kian Chanter (Lead Guitar, Vocals)
Andy Carlton Enda Kian Paddy Ronan |
Kian was born in Hillingdon and raised in West Drayton from a family of musicians, including his father Alex Chanter, the London blues guitarist (and brother to backing group, The Chanter Sisters). His parents bought him his first drum kit aged 10 and at 14 he had started gigging with his Dad’s blues/rock n roll band – “…watching Dad play guitar and sing inspired me to follow in his footsteps”. At age 16 he joined his first ‘real’ covers band ‘The Frantix’. A few years later, Kian was working in a music shop and got to know several musicians, including some of the MacManus brothers – who at that time had a covers band called ‘The Goonies’. Before long, Kian became The Goonies’ bass player and through this became familiar with The BibleCode Sundays. Kian continued to play with The Frantix and, when The Goonies faded out, became part of an original trio ‘The 13’. Highlights for his new band included recording at Metropolis Studios in Chiswick and winning the XFM competition to perform live at the XFM Picnic Rock Festival in Clapham. After 2 years of building a solid reputation on the original music circuit the band parted amicably. Then, in August 2009 he received a phone call from Ronan, asking if he would be interested in depping a few bass gigs for them, with the intention of getting him on lead Guitar for some of their bigger gigs. It was at one of the band’s rehearsals, with Kian rehearsing on electric guitar, that a new BCS sound emerged, and has influenced the style of BCS writing and performances since. “It was very exciting for all of us – for me especially, as it meant a new original project started”. Kian has a love for the touring lifestyle, and particularly enjoys performing in the US. “It’s always good going away -there’s always a great atmosphere among the lads when we’re about to gig abroad together. I never laugh so much than when on a weekend away with the lads.” Kian’s musical influences include Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. When away from the band, and not in his home studio, Kian can often be found in the kitchen indulging his passion for cooking. |
